The Fight Club Approach to 2016

The Fight Club Approach to 2016

Matt HealeyTuesday,18 August 2015

I have been lazy. Well not really lazy since I have been doing a lot of stuff this summer. I got back on the Appalachian Trail for a few sections, joined a golf club and took up golf, went to Paris and London, and have been training for 2015 Reach The Beach. So I have had a lot of stuff going on. What I have not been doing is writing for The Snap Download. But something occurred to me and I wanted to post this. It has to do with why I will be voting in the New Hampshire primary for future president Trump.

Tyler Durden: [pointing at an emergency instruction manual on a plane] You know why they put oxygen masks on planes?

Narrator: So you can breathe.

Tyler Durden: Oxygen gets you high. In a catastrophic emergency, you’re taking giant panicked breaths. Suddenly you become euphoric, docile. You accept your fate. It’s all right here. Emergency water landing – 600 miles an hour. Blank faces, calm as Hindu cows.

Narrator: That’s, um… That’s an interesting theory.

That sums up why I will vote for and hope Trump wins. The 2016 red state/blue state, big money, identity politics, social media selfie election is guaranteed not to produce anyone who can effectively govern. Even if it did, the total destruction of civility in both houses of Congress will guarantee that even if we elect a candidate that can govern, they will be effectively blocked from doing so. In January of 2017, nothing is going to change except the name of the front door.

Given that, there are two approaches. To tilt at windmills or to take what I am calling the Tyler Durden approach. In the Tyler approach, you take giant panicked breaths of comedy to distract you as the country races towards oblivion. So, the best thing for that approach is a Trump/Sanders race with Trump winning. After all, which two candidates will be better positioned to keep the coffers of Fallon, Oliver, Colbert, Meyers, etc. full of comedy gold?

Take Action!
