More Like Chump

Trump is stupid. Trump is ill-informed. Trump is an asshole; Donald Trump is an enigma. I struggled to nail down my feelings toward him, but I think that last one sums it up. Sometimes I see Trump as a kid who’s trying out for a sports team that’s just a little out of his league. To tweak an old saying: he’s good at pretending to walk the walk, but he has no idea how to talk the talk.

We’ve had our fair share of racist comments from politicians, but there’s just something about Donald Trump that makes it so much more annoying.

“They’re sending people that have lots of problems,” Trump said about Mexican immigrants, “and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”

It’s shit like this that baffles me. It’s as though Trump forgot he had a speech, and so when they pushed him on stage he just started talking. Is it the way that he confidently asserts that THE Mexicans are rapists, or is it how he tragically appeals to authority at the end? I think it’s both, but I still can’t put my finger on why when he says it, it’s more annoying.

When Hillary Clinton mentioned that Trump’s rhetoric could “Trigger people who are less than stable to something” like the shootings, Trump swiftly constructed a straw man (all while sounding like a 15-year-old replying to a “hater”).

“It’s pretty pathetic,” Trump said in his Instagram video, “that Hillary Clinton just blamed me for the horrendous attack that took place in South Carolina.”

The only thing that’s pathetic, Trump, is that straw man. Hillary never said that you were to blame for the shooting in South Carolina. She blamed that type of fear mongering or hatemongering on the shooting in South Carolina.

He also replied by saying, “Now if that is incendiary—if that’s being tough or being unfair, you let me know. But I think having strong borders—and I mean strong borders—I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

No, Trump there isn’t, but Clinton wasn’t attacking your idea. She wasn’t trying to convince people to open the borders. The issue, the “unfair” part, the “tough” part, was when you said, “They’re rapists […] I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”

If you were to walk on stage and say that, and then give some shred of evidence to support such a ludicrous claim, then you’re all good, friend. But you didn’t, just like you didn’t when you proclaimed that you had a plan to defeat ISIS, yet you weren’t going to tell us what your plan was.

I think that it comes down to Trump not understanding debate. He’s terrible at making and articulating points. That, or he’s just stupid and honestly can’t discern what other people are trying to say to him. I’m honestly not sure if his misrepresentation of points is due to malice, or stupidity. But either way, he still pisses me off.

Take Action!
