Listen: Florence and the Machine Debuts 2 New Songs

After a seemingly endless hiatus since 2011, Florence and the Machine are slated to release their third album, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, on 29 May. At a recent concert at the Dome in London, lead singer Florence Welch debuted three new songs, “St. Jude,” “What Kind of Man,” and “Third Eye.” You can listen here.

A big Florence fan? Pre-order the album on iTunes or Amazon so you get your hands on it the moment it goes live.

For someone who seems to love drama so much in music (hello, “The Dog Days Are Over”), Florence Welch seems to have the low key thing nailed down in real life. Although fans have been waiting on tenterhooks for How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful for over four years now, Welch and her talented gang haven’t given us much to go on.

So the debut of a few new songs off the album at a recent concert in London seemed like a huge treat. Sure, the sound quality is shitty and the filming is grainy. But we’ll take what we can get.

One of the cool things about Florence and the Machine is that her songs always seem larger-than-life. It’s kind of like if Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” mated with Fleet Foxes. Or maybe had a threesome with First Aid Kit. There’s some serious girl power in there, but it’s blended with beautiful pipes and her sleepy, lullaby-esque sort of feel.

That shone through in all of these songs, but it was the most evident in “Third Eye.” I can’t wait to see the result sans crowd mumblings and with the crisp studio instrumentals. Move over, “Shake it Out.”

Oh! If you haven’t seen it already, you can take a peek at “How Big How Blue How Beautiful,” a track off her upcoming album, below.

Take Action!
