Trampled By Turtles Announces Release Date for ‘Wild Animals’

The Snap:

Since releasing the explosively popular Stars and Satellites in 2012, it’s been largely crickets from Trampled by Turtles. Their silence was broken with the exciting news that the band’s seventh studio album, Wild Animals, will hit virtual and physical shelves on July 15th.

If you are a lover of beer, then Trampled by Turtles is offering an extra little incentive to preorder their album. If you attend one of their shows (see tour dates/locations here), you can preorder and get a koozie too. Talk about big rewards for planning ahead!

The Download:

NPR called them “Midwest Bluegrass Royalty.”

The designation sticks. Trampled by Turtles, referred to as TBT by its large mass of loyal fans, has drawn at-capacity crowds to nearly all of its shows, turning a genre that was once pretty regionally locked into a nationwide phenomenon.

There’s something infectious about the music that TBT offers. It’s energetic without feeling sloppy; it offers universal appeal without feeling over-wrought. The band also doesn’t have any illusions about where they belong. On their bio page, they write: “As a band, we always felt we were able to attain an energy on stage that we struggled to find in the studio.” They don’t produce songs that need to be manipulated and molded; what you see is what you get. And there’s something kind of beautiful about that.

They’ve definitely grown more comfortable in the studio, but it seems like that comfort comes from knowing that their material doesn’t have to be flawless. It can feel a little wild, a little off the cuff, and that’s when it’s at its best. Wild Animals promises to offer that same approach.

The first single off Wild Animals is available for your listening pleasure. Enjoy “Are You Behind the Shining Star?,” then watch the album vignette, below:
