Why Jack White’s Upcoming Album Is Going To Be Killer

The Snap:

High Ball Stepper” was the first song to be released from Jack White’s upcoming album, Lazaretto, and the way that the growling guitars combine with that weird liquid-ish substance in the video is truly captivating.

However, the title track went above and beyond just pouring some slime and sand all over speakers, and was introduced as ‘the world’s fastest record,’ going from a live performance to vinyl in under 4 hours.

You can purchase “High Ball Stepper” and “Lazaretto” on iTunes now. The full album is set to be released on June 10th.

The Download:

As I said in my preview of The Black Keys forthcoming album, I’ve always loved blues rock, and Jack White is a big reason why. Whether he was with The White Stripes, Raconteurs, or flying solo, everything he touched turned to gold, and there are no signs of that changing with Lazaretto.

Even without the awesomely trippy video for “High Ball Stepper,” the song itself would still be amazing — and there aren’t even any lyrics! I can’t remember the last time I listened to an instrumental song on repeat for a solid hour — probably because it’s never happened — but it’s really easy to do with this one.

Of course, the real show-stealer here is the album’s title track, “Lazaretto.” Being the ‘world’s fastest record’ is a nice little publicity stunt for Jack and the record, but I really don’t give a shit about any of that. It’s a typical Jack White song done to perfection and that’s all that matters.

So far, it looks like Lazaretto is going to be a seriously good follow up to his 2012 album, Blunderbuss.

Plus, if you still want more Jack White in your life — and who doesn’t? — there’s still a small chance for a new Raconteurs album later this year. Maybe…

Check out “Lazaretto” below.
