Okay, it’s no big secret that TSD is a big ‘ole Phantogram. They made it onto our list of best songs of 2013, most anticipated albums of 2014, and got an enthusiastic review of “Black Out Days,” the gorgeous single from Voices.

This Saratoga Springs duo has mastered the art of electronica-meets-indie, creating a sound that appeals to a diverse demographic. Since releasing Eyelid Movies in 2009 (which featured the gorgeous and hit-making “Mouthful of Diamonds“) has been slow marinating, leaving fans to wonder whether they were a one-hit wonder of the real deal. Clearly, it was the latter.

A few thoughts on Voices:

“Nothing But Trouble” – Understated and beautiful, this is the sort of song that feels like a repressed rock-out session waiting to happen. Listen to the first 20 seconds and you’ll get what I mean.

Black Out Days” – Moving, beautiful, and addictive. Listen.

Bill Murray” – Yeah, the name doesn’t really make much sense. But doesn’t that make it all the more iconically “Bill Murray”?

Fall In Love” – Classical vibe meets electronica meets alt meets lo-fi. Okay, I see you, Phantogram.

NPR describes  Voices as “the sound of a band at ease and assured in its moment, as it seizes every scrap of momentum it’s created for itself.” I agree. But I also think they represent the sound of a band that knows it’s on the brink of something huge.

Take Action!
