Beck’s Newest Single, “Waking Light”

The Snap:

Beck has released “Waking Light”, another single from his upcoming album, Morning Phase. Continuing with the depressed, downtempo style of the two previously released tracks — ”Blue Moon” and “Wave” — the direction of the new album is becoming very clear.

Morning Phase is set to be released on February 25th, and is available to preorder now.

The Download:

Last month I talked about how Morning Phase was already starting to sound like Sea Change’s sequel, and Beck’s latest singles have definitely confirmed that.

A few weeks ago he released “Blue Moon,” a single that features a soulful and gloomy sound that we haven’t heard from Beck in a long time. It utilizes a lot of the same sounds, speeds, and rhythms as his Sea Change album, so the comparisons are certainly justified.

The newest single to surface, “Waking Light”, is nothing short of greatness. This is one of the heaviest and most sincere songs that Beck has ever done, and it sounds fantastic. The way that the instruments and vocals come together in the last two minutes is simply stunning.

I expect that Morning Phase will be filled-to-the-brim with serious, heartfelt songs — and that’s perfectly fine with me. They don’t feel fake or forced, and they don’t feel influenced by anything other than Beck himself — both good reasons to buy the album.

You never know exactly what you’re going to get from Beck until it’s released, but I think it’s safe to say that Morning Phase will be an absolute gem.

Take Action!
