The Snap:

Against Me!, the longtime Florida-based punk band, have officially released their sixth studio album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues. While the band’s new LP may have lost some of the aggressive edge of their previous albums, the passion, lyrics, and intensity are stronger than ever.

Transgender Dysphoria Blues is available to stream on Spotify, or purchase on iTunes.

The Download:

I’ve had Transgender Dysphoria Blues on repeat for the last three days, and it just keeps getting better. The title track has some of the most powerful lyrics I’ve heard in a long time, and they come straight from the heart of lead singer Laura Jane Grace — who is certainly an interesting story herself.

After being an “angry white male” on stage for the last 10 years, she recently announced that she was transsexual.

This is the band’s first album since Laura came out, and it acts as a wide-open door directly into her mind — and it’s not very pretty.

Here’s a small section of the lyrics from the title track:

You want them to notice
The ragged ends of your summer dress,
You want them to see you
Like they see any other girl,
They just see a faggot
They hold their breath not to catch the sick

But don’t be mistaken, this album isn’t just about having gender dysphoria — it’s about being different, dealing with discrimination, and putting up with assholes on a daily basis. And that’s what punk is all about.

The entire LP is great from beginning to end, and it’s easily one of the best albums of 2014 so far.

Make sure to hear “Transgender Dysphoria Blues”, “Fuckmylife666”, “True Trans Soul Rebel”, “Paralytic States”, and “Black Me Out” — all brilliant songs from the album.

Take Action!
