LISTEN TO BIG UPS’ DEBUT ALBUM, ‘EIGHTEEN HOURS OF STATIC’

The Snap:

Big Ups, the post-hardcore punk rock group from New York, will be officially releasing their debut album, Eighteen Hours of Static, on January 14th (). The group has previously released singles such as the aggressive,  high-energy “Goes Black,” as well as the much calmer and controlled “Wool.” The singles clearly show the difference in styles that are heard on the upcoming album — and both of them are equally awesome.

The entire LP is currently available to stream on the band’s Soundcloud page.

The Download:

In a world where the top indie bands are all producing the same soft, acoustic, sing-a-long trash, taking a quick dip into some old-fashioned punky noise-rock can be more refreshing than you might think. The obvious choices on your musical journey would be bands such as Cloud Nothings, Japandroids, and Pissed Jeans, but now there’s a new addition to that category: Big Ups.

I was introduced to Big Ups about a month ago, and have been consistently playing “Goes Black” as much as humanly possible. Finding a band that isn’t trying to imitate another is a rarity, and Big Ups are certainly doing things their own way ().

The constant push-and-pull battle between talking and singing creates an incredibly passionate sound that demands your attention. Trying to be productive with Big Ups playing in the background isn’t the greatest idea, as you’ll just find yourself staring into nothingness bobbing your head until the track ends.

You can listen to the full Eighteen Hours of Static below, and pre-order the album on iTunes.

Take Action!
