BEST MUSIC VIDEOS OF THE YEAR (SO FAR…)

The Snap:

We’re almost a week into November (yikes!), giving us less than two months of 2013. We’ve had some grand music so far, and some fun visuals to accompany them. Let’s take a look:

The Download:

Best “We Can Make Fun Of Ourselves” Video: Mumford and Sons, “Hopeless Wanderer”

Bravo guys, we salute you. Yeah, yeah, it got criticized for making fun of it’s fans (psh). If you’ve ever seen photos of these tweed-clad, morose-looking and cap-wearing minstrels, then I think it’s hard to deny that they were definitely poking fun at themselves. Plus, great cast ‘o characters.

Best Badass Video: Django Django, “Wor”

To be honest, it almost makes you forget about the actual song. When the unbelievably fearless motorcycle-braving teenager says in the opening seconds, “You have to separate head and heart and be brave,” you know you’re in for a wild ride. Oh, and this is real, guys.. Not staged.

Best Showdown Video: Alt. J, “Fitzpleasure”

So. So. Weird. And so captivating.

Best Rollicking Adventure Video: Father John Misty, “I’m Writing A Novel”

Allow me to introduce you guys to the new Jack Kerouac. Loaded with raw footage from Tillman on tour, these are four minutes filled with fucked-up dancing, target shooting, Santa costumes and hearse cruises. Sign me up, please.

Best Storytelling Video: David Bowie, “The Next Day”

YouTube took the video down because it “violated their terms of service.” (As you can see, it was reinstated pretty quickly). It’s a sort of religious horror story, with a whole lot of skin-bearing. Understandably, it’s gleaned a lot of criticism, but it’s also pretty brilliant. Plus, dynamite actress Marion Cotillard makes an appearance.. And, as always, she rocks it. It’s also got Gary Oldman, who possibly rocks even more.

Take Action!
