PASSION PIT RELEASES NEW EP

The Snap:

Passion Pit have released their new 3-track EP, Constant Conversations, which is essentially a b-sides collection of last year’s album, Gossamer. It includes an alternate version of the title track, a remix of Carried Away, and the previously unreleased single, Ruin Your Day.

Constant Conversations is available now on Spotify and Soundcloud.

The Download:

I wholeheartedly expected to hate this EP after looking at the track list, but as usual, Passion Pit knows what I want more than I do.

The alternate version of Constant Conversations is faster and a lot more electronic than its predecessor, turning the bassy, sexy slow jam into a synthesized dance-floor special. The song is good, though, and catchier than the album version. It might as well be a new song, as it’s a far cry from the original, and the best track on the EP.

Ruin Your Day is the slowest and most sincere song on the record, never once picking up speed, and being content with somber vocals through out it’s entirety. Nothing is incredibly attention grabbing, and the short play time somehow manages to drag on forever. The whole 2:23 is spent slowly building up to the climax of the song, which, sadly, never happens. It may be decent when separated from the other two tracks, but when played in order, it’s a massive slowdown in the middle of a high-speed electronic frenzy.

The last track, Carried Away – Dillon Francis Remix, creates a Skrillex-esque dubstep wobble-factory out of the fun and fast-paced original. It’s clearly designed for raging at nightclubs – or for teens trying to annoy their parents with the sound of mating transformers – and it’s a hell of a lot different from the version on Gossamer. As with most dubstep remixes, the majority of the old song has been replaced with some dank-ass wobbles and drops, but it’s an excellent song if you find dubstep enjoyable.

While I do wish that the EP contained more new songs instead of a remix and an alternate version, the tracks included offer a ton of variety and can be easily enjoyed by just about anybody.

Take Action!
