Father John Misty: “I’m Writing a Novel” Video

The Snap:

J. Tillman (moniker: Father John Misty) just released a music video, below, for “I’m Writing a Novel.” The film has a Kerouac-inspired On the Road feel, and is stuffed with footage that is guaranteed to make any fan hopeful for a new album release in the near future.

J. Tillman is gearing up for his tour (as Father John Misty) on 3 October… You can see the schedule here. If you haven’t already, you can snag a copy of Fear Fun on iTunes.

The Download:

Ironically, J. Tillman is best known for his collaboration with indi-folk band Fleet Foxes, where he worked on Helplessness Blues before parting ways. Tillman actually has a prolific solo career under his belt, with 12 EPs and studio albums to show for himself.

I’m Writing a Novel,” which you can watch below, is a departure from Tillman’s signature dark style. It does not have the car-crash-i-can’t-look-away that you’ll find in “Hollywood Cemetery Forever Sings,” nor does it have the psychedelics-inspired confusion that you get in “Nancy From Now On.”

I almost like “I’m Writing a Novel” better than any of them. Tillman cruises down desolate highways, sits by the fire, and washed clothes. The “mundane” is blended with the offbeat (dressing up in military attire, target shooting, cruising with a hearse) to create a snapshot of Tillman’s life.

The best part? There’s something about the song that will make you want to hit the road and go have your own adventure (or many). Not too shabby.

Take Action!
