NINE INCH NAILS: NEW ALBUM, NEW SINGLE, NEW TOUR, NEW SOUND?

The Snap:

As we all expected, Trent Reznor is back with a semi-new lineup for Nine Inch Nails. The new single, Came Back Haunted, gives us the first peek at the highly anticipated album, Hesitation Marks, due out September 3rd. The band kicks off a world tour this July and will continue touring heavily throughout the year.

The Download:

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard any new material from Nine Inch Nails, but it’s not entirely surprising to see them back in the studio.  We knew Trent Reznor was working on new material for the group, we just didn’t know when it would be officially announced.

The new single is what you would expect from NIN, but with a bit of electronic zest sprinkled on top. It’s definitely more dance-influenced than previous Nine Inch Nails tracks, but it’s incredibly catchy and grows on you quickly. Heavy drums and a wicked electronic beat carry throughout the song, and pair wonderfully with the vocals that we’ve all come to know and love. This isn’t the traditional guitar-heavy music that NIN generally pumps out, and it’s quite refreshing to get something different. Of course, the heavily-distorted instruments are still present; it’s just that the instruments are now keyboards and synthesizers instead of guitars and basses.

It’s an interesting twist for the group, and I’m curious to see if the rest of the album will continue with the same electronic influences of Came Back Haunted. There’s already a remix of nearly every NIN song ever created, anyway, and electronic music is all the rage with the kids these days. Smart move, Trent.

If you’ve somehow managed to forgot how much you love Nine Inch Nails over the years, every single ever released by the group is now available on SoundCloud.

Take Action!
