The Snap:

Sometimes, there’s nothing wrong with some wholesome visual viewing fun. Trampled by Turtles evidently had this mindset when they released the music video for “Midnight on the Interstate.” The song is from 2012’s Stars and Satellites; it was conceived and created by students at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.

The animation premiered on Team Coco, the brilliant brain child of late night host Conan O’Brien (and yes, the name is inspired by the Team Edward/Team Jacob debate that had teenage Twilight fans at each other’s throats for a few years back there.)

The Download:

Trampled by Turtles is a bluegrass band for people who don’t like bluegrass. Don’t get me wrong – it’s also a band for people who love the genre… but there’s something about these guys that are infectuously appealing. Every song is just clearly such a blast for them to be presenting for their fans (“Victory,” thanks for being my proof point).

Their songs invite nostalgia and inspiration in a matter of verses. The banjo and fiddle are not relics of a casual country band; they’re the tools of an incredibly talented group. Each of the five men exude passion in a way that seeps into every song. Basically, these guys have enthusiasm that is catching. It’s little wonder that Stars and Satellites was so popular. Just like this video, their whole album is chock full of feel-good music that is executed with serious talent.

The band will be on tour throughout the summer – check out their schedule and consider tickets to be money well spent.

For a few TBT treats, look below:

— NPR did an incredible World Cafe session. 14 minutes well spent, guys.

— If anything will make you wish barn dances were the norm in your social sphere, it’ll be this. “Wait So Long” is an incredible song as is, but combined with the beautiful live footage… well… see for yourself.

— Arcade Fire and Trampled by Turtles might seem like an unlikely pair, but this cover of “Rebellion” will force you to reconsider. We owe AV Club big time for that gem.

Take Action!
