The Snap:

Alternative rock legends Spoon have revealed the track titles for their upcoming album, as well as posting dates for this summers Divine Fits tour. While no music has been released to the public yet, the band states in their newsletter that, “the shit is sounding good”.

The Download:

Since Spoon was formed in 1993, they’ve released plenty of albums that have changed with the times. Never ceasing to release chart-topping hits, they’ve given us singles such as “Don’t You Evah”, “The Underdog”, “You Got Yr Cherrybomb”, and “I Turn My Camera On”. While their last album, Transference, was a bit of a letdown to traditional Spoon fans, the new album will hopefully be a throwback to their older style with a bit of an updated sound.

If you’re not familiar with Spoons discography, you’re missing out on a lot of great music. Going back to 2007, they released Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, which was an incredibly well done album, and considered one of their best. It received “Best New Music” honors from Pitchfork, and was the top selling independent album in 2007. If their new album can harness the magic that Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga had, and combine it with the consistency and catchy rhythms that we’ve come to expect from Spoon, they have potential to reach the top of the charts once again.

However, Spoon isn’t the only thing on lead singer Britt Daniel’s mind anymore. He started Divine Fits back in 2011, and the debut album “A Thing Called Divine Fits” introduced a more synthesized, dub-version of his usual indie rock. He also founded his newest band Split Single late last year, and has put three of their singles up for listen on SoundCloud.

It will be interesting to see how Britt and the rest of the band handle the new album, and whether or not these new groups will influence Spoons sound. Either way, traditional Spoon style or not, it’s definitely worth paying attention to.

Take Action!
