A$AP ROCKY AND SKRILLEX RAGE IN THE DOMINICAN WITH “WILD FOR THE NIGHT”

The Snap:

A$AP Rocky’s new video for “Wild for the Night” features himself and Skrillex in the slums of the Dominican Republic. A$AP Rocky will be touring North America for the next few months, and his latest album “Long. Live. ASAP.”  is available now.

The Download:

Well, this video taught me quite a few things:

1. I want to visit the Dominican Republic.

2. I’m way too scared to ever visit the Dominican Republic.

3. It is apparently okay to have 10 year old kids carrying guns.

4. I’ve never seen Skrillex look like such a little bitch.

I don’t generally follow hip-hop very closely, but there are artists that I do find talented (A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, etc), and when I heard that this video was shot in the Dominican Republic and Skrillex actually appeared in it, well… I had to check it out. It’s pretty obvious Skrillex doesn’t exactly belong in the video and isn’t in his natural environment. If you don’t know what he looks like, he’s the awkward scrawny white guy trying to fit in, and the only time he actually contributed to any part of the video (other than bad dancing and sitting on a scooter) was the last 30 seconds. He does, however, create a solid beat with the signature Skrillex sound that flows incredibly well with the rest of the song.

A$AP Rocky’s made quite the impression lately in mainstream music, with his hit single “Fuckin’ Problems” breaking the top 10 most played tracks on Spotify and peaked at 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. As I said before, hip-hop’s not really my forte but occasionally there are a few gems that catch my eye. If you have any interest in it, A$AP Rocky is definitely worth a listen and has songs that feature Kendrick Lamar, Santigold and Drake. And if you enjoyed Skrillex’s part, I’d check out his Youtube page for just about everything he offers.

PS: Props to A$AP for shooting an original video that doesn’t feature a Lamborghini, strip club, or money falling from the sky.
