WHAT IS IT WITH KOREANS AND HORSES?

The Snap:

I am sure that by now everyone has seen the Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video, which features Psy doing the “horse dance”. The video was interesting enough to go viral throughout the U.S. But that is only part of the Korean obsession with horses. The other part was featured on Anderson Cooper’s Riduclist for 2012. It is the Korean Horse Riding Workout Machine.

The Download:

What is the deal with riding a horse in Korea? I had heard at some point that riding a horse was a euphemism in Korea for getting drunk, but I can not find a reference for that, so I am not sure that I am remembering correctly. Regardless, in my experience, getting drunk is something the Koreans are very good at. I went drinking at one point with a group of Koreans in Thailand and I can offer one price of advice. Do not go drinking with Koreans. You will lose. Badly.

Actually, perhaps the drinking skill is why they need the horse riding exercise equipment. One of benefits of the equipment is it prevents you from falling over when trying to ride an imaginary horse for exercise. Which would be a real threat if you were trying to work out while drunk. Of course one might question the effectiveness of working out while drunk, but I digress. Regardless, I find the horse riding obsession a bit weird.
