The Snap:

Earlier this year, televangelist Pat Robertson told viewers of the The 700 Club of a direct conversation with God. During this conversation, the Almighty apparently revealed the winner of the 2012 Presidential election to Robertson. While not naming Romney directly, Robertson hinted that God wasn’t thrilled with Obama, saying that, in God’s view, Obama holds radical views that are “at odds with the majority” of the United States. Robertson went on to forecast an economic collapse, quoting God directly as saying, “This is not my judgment. They are bringing it upon themselves.”

Well, Robertson — who, remember, once claimed that the 2010 earthquake in Haiti was punishment for a deal that Haitians made with the devil as part of a plan to overcome French rule — has now admitted that he “missed” God’s actual message. He must’ve had just misheard God.

I mean, honestly, people still listen to this guy? For crying out loud, TIME has a top ten list of gaffes dedicated just to him.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, one thing is obvious: Robertson is just making this shit up as he goes along. He’s not talking to God. The fact that he still has any audience at all says a lot about how far our country still has to go, in terms of trusting facts and data over nuts who purport to know God’s preference, and who appeal to emotion in order to sway opinions.
