The Snap:

I hope that this post is skimmed just before y’all eat way too much turkey and watch Dallas and Detroit play football. But Thanksgiving is not really the point of the entry. It is that fact that Thanksgiving is one of the most awesome holidays and it is beginning to be ruined by the retailers.

The Download:

Thanksgiving is, I think, the best holiday of the year. The reason for this is there is no natural conflict. We do not have the idiots on Fox news complaining about the War on Thanksgiving the way they do about Christmas. There is no religious overtones like there is for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Easter, or Good Friday — so no religious reasons to get pissed off. Lets face it — it is a great holiday. The tradition is to eat too much and watch football. How awesome is that?

But in the ever increasing quest drive same store sales, the retailers are starting Christmas sales earlier and earlier. This year, Wal-Mart announced that they would be opening for Black Friday at 8PM on Thursday. Thursday. WTF? And it is not even like the shopping is a pleasant experience. There are the constant news reports about arguments that sometimes escalate into violence. All for a discount on a TV. So now, there will be a segment of the population that has to report to work rather than slip into a Tryptophan-induced coma, so that angry shoppers can yell at them about long lines.
