NEW MUSIC FOR OLD SCHOOL MUSIC FANS: TAME IMPALA

The Snap:

Sometimes it’s hard to find new music that aligns with your musical tastes when you’re convinced that music from a certain time period is “The Best Ever,” to which nothing else compares. Take, for example, the late 1960s when The Beatles were producing classic albums such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Abbey Road. It can be tough to find modern acts whose music captures the ahead-of-its-time psychedelic sound that The Beatles produced during that period.

The Download:

If you’re a fan of those works (and if you’re not, then something is seriously wrong with you — WTH?), then Tame Impala’s latest studio album, Lonerism, is worth a listen. The album puts a modern spin on the late 1960s, while evoking the same psychedelic sound that The Beatles helped pioneer.

You can preview each track from Lonerism on its Amazon.com page (and the video below has some samples), but a better approach is to download a streaming app such as Spotify and listen to the album in its entirety. After all, you wouldn’t really get a feel for the interconnected genius of Abbey Road by listening to ten separate 30-second clips, would you?

Give Tame Impala’s latest a try (you’ll be hip like Dr. Evil), and let me know what you think with a comment below.
