The Snap

People make choices. Sometime you agree with them and sometimes you don’t. The fact is that it is their life and while you may not have made the same choice, it is not your life.

So over the past several months I have been paying attention to peoples choices. I find it interesting to see what they have decided to do and why. In many cases, the choices are easy to understand. People drive for higher paying jobs because they have kids that they want to secure a better life for them. Some people dedicate themselves to a cause that they care about. Some people reach for a goal. Whatever.

While it is fun to speculate about someone’s choices, and it is even fun to gossip about them, what we need to understand is that it is their life and thus they have to live with the consequences of their choices. In many cases, that is easy, especially if we agree with the choice. The problem becomes when we disagree with the choice. For many of us, that is easy, we look at the person and say nothing because we realize that it is not our life and so we mind our own business. For many more however, they do not realize that and feel then need to but in. So they press, ask for justification, want explanations, etc. Dime store psychology would say that they do this because they want to make a similar choice but cannot, maybe for legitimate reasons, maybe because they are afraid to. Who knows? The point is who the fuck are you to question choices that do not directly affect you? Before you press, ask yourself this – Does this affect you? If the answer is no then shut the fuck up.
