Stereomood

No Britney Spears up in here.

The Snap

Stereomood is a relatively new music app, available for both iPhone and Android. The app provides a list of “moods” for listeners to choose from, and serves up songs based on the selection.

The Download

Unlike other popular music apps, such as Spotify and Pandora, Stereomood provides a listening experience based on moods instead of artists. Categories include “8bit,” “Elegant,” and even “Sitting on the Toilet,” allowing users to jump from playlist to playlist based on how they’re feeling at any given moment.  In this way, Stereomood is more similar to Songza, another popular mood-based app. Unlike Songza, however, Stereomood features Indie artists that most people are unlikely to know by name.

The mood-based listening experience really shines on Stereomood. I mean, what’s not to like about a version of the Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ classic, “Come on Eileen,” remixed with classic video game music (think: Pac Man)? There is answer is “nothing.” There’s nothing to dislike. It’s pure Kicking Ass App on the Wild Side.
